'The New North'

In collaboration with the Dagblad van het Noorden, the Leefbaar en Kansrijk Groningen Knowledge Platform is working on a multimedia project about the future of the gas extraction area: ' Het Nieuwe Noorden '. With this project, the Knowledge Platform wants to stimulate a dialogue about the future of an area that is heavily burdened by the gas extraction problem, but that also has a lot of value and potential. By collaborating with Dagblad van het Noorden, we hope to reach a wide audience and involve them in this dialogue.

In its view of the future of the gas production area, Het Nieuwe Noorden focuses on four themes: the landscape, the economy, the energy transition and quality of life and trust. From March 27, 2021, a new article will appear every month. It concerns an extensive online article, a long read , supported with visual material and provided with many relevant references, and a more concise article in the Saturday edition of the Dagblad van het Noorden. Each (online) article refers to in-depth material, such as (scientific) studies and reports.

The longreads also serve as a source of inspiration for the discussion about the Environmental Vision on the Voice of the Province of Groningen platform of the Province of Groningen.
